Bouchette: 'You're Not Going To Trade Ben Roethlisberger'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette joined The Fan Morning Show in his regular weekly Monday spot following the Steelers' 23-10 win over the Buffalo Bills.

The big story though came hours before kickoff when an Ian Rapoport report on NFL.com said that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could seek a trade in the offseason.

"They are not going to trade Ben Roethlisberger," Bouchette said. "It's ridiculous."

Ben has denied this, Ben's agent has denied this and the Steelers have denied this. So, where did this story come from?

Bouchette said that there is a lot of pressure on these national guys to come up with stuff. That doesn't mean that he made it up. He heard something from someone. It just may not have been a credible source.

Ed says he would have been stunned if there was anything to this and it really appears that there is not. The Steelers have no interest in trading away a franchise quarterback. They have been up and down, but having him always gives you a chance.

Bouchette also wonders what the Steelers could even get for him. He said there is a reason why great quarterbacks are not traded very often. He says he is going nowhere, but check back with him in five years.

As for the game, did the Steelers strike up any hope for a playoff push with this win?

"No. They won a game," Bouchette said. "I don't see them getting into the playoffs, but the Bengals are doing all they can to help."

The Steelers are just two games behind the Bengals for the AFC North lead with a head-to-head matchup left.
