Verizon Offering $50,000 Reward After North Side Copper Thefts

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) – A reward is being offered after a recent string of copper thefts on the North Side.

According to a press release, Verizon is offering $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and prosecution after nearly 20 incidents have been reported.

The most recent copper theft happened on Nov. 11 on Royal Street.

To date, nearly 2,000 feet of copper cable has been stolen, which has caused an estimated $400,000 worth of damage.

"These incidents are incomprehensible because they put people's lives in danger and can cost thousands of dollars to repair," Director of Operations for Verizon Pennsylvania Hank Abbott said in a statement. "We will not tolerate these deliberate and malicious acts against our telephone network and our customers."

A majority of the reported incidents have transpired on Gershon Street, Nublock Street and Royal Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Verizon Security at 1-800-997-3287.
