Pittsburghers Head To Local Stores To Stock Up Before Storm Hits

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Outside it was a competition for coveted parking spaces.

Inside, it was a race to buy those essentials to cover Thanksgiving and all that potential snow.

"We were prepared due to the holiday for more, but this on top of the holiday business is going to be a little bit more challenging for us," said Doug Prebles, Kuhn's Store Manager.

Shoppers at the Kuhn's on Banksville Road are targeting the typical pre-holiday purchases.

"There's a lot of people here shopping for the storm too," said customer Jane Mitchell. "And everyone's talking about it and I hope I don't come."

"It is very crowded, yeah," said customer Arthur Cohen. "Those forecasts have a tendency to get people upset."

Monday, the staff made calls to suppliers – to restock what's flying off the store shelves, items like milk, bread and toilet paper.

From delivering, to cooking, to traveling, it has a lot of people concerned.

"Yes, because I have to take someone to the hospital, so it's going to be a rough ride if we get 3 inches," said customer Mary Murphy.

There are reports of supermarkets in the south running out of items such as milk and bottled water. Some other stores have run out of rock salt and ice melt.
