Charges Against Leechburg's Mayor-Elect Dropped

LEECHBURG (KDKA) -- Charges have now been dropped against the mayor-elect of an Armstrong County borough.

Shawn Lerch was recently elected mayor of Leechburg.

Earlier this month, he was arrested on harassment and assault charges following an argument with his wife and stepson.

According to the criminal complaint, Lerch was allegedly drinking when he and his wife got into a heated argument over plans to move his mother-in-law into their home.

He's accused of allegedly grabbing his stepson by the throat and then pushing him to the ground. His wife then called 911 for help.

At a preliminary hearing this week, the Valley News Dispatch reports that Lerch's wife refused to testify, and Leechburg Police said they could not proceed with the case because witnesses refused to take the stand.

Lerch will take office in January.
