Police Say Man Used Baby As Human Shield Against Officers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Police say they'd gone to Raumon Wilson's home Tuesday night to arrest him after his girlfriend and mother of their 1-year-old son called saying that he had flipped out inside their Bently Drive home.

She told police Wilson threatened to hit her with a candle holder, told her 3-year-old daughter he couldn't stand her and to go eat oven cleaner and then started throwing things around their apartment.

One of the items was a piece of weight lifting equipment. Wilson allegedly knocked it off a shelf – it hit their 1-year-old on his head, knocking him down to the ground.

Wilson reportedly allowed his girlfriend and her 3-year-old to leave the apartment, but locked himself inside with the 1-year-old.

When Zone 2 officers got to the home and knocked on Wilson's door, he wouldn't answer.

Officers say they were ready to break the door down when Wilson opened the door with his child held out in front of him, using the baby as a shield against police.

Officers say they had to physically remove the baby from Wilson before arresting him.
