Local Mother Accused Of Showing Up Drunk To Pick Up Child At Day Care

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local mother is accused of being intoxicated, while picking up her child at daycare.

The incident happened at the KinderCare Day Care Center in Peters Township Thursday evening.

According to a spokesperson for the center, a teacher saw a parent who appeared to be intoxicated at pic up time. She was picking up her 3-year-old.

The spokesman says the staff immediately called police, tried to get the woman to stay at the facility until police arrived.

In a statement the KinderCare spokesman said: "While our teachers and staff cannot restrain a parent who may be placing the child in an unsafe situation or prevent them from leaving our property, we can and do encourage the parent to wait for police to arrive. We are confident our employees did everything they could last night to ensure the safety of the child in question."

Investigators say one day care employee tried to prevent the woman from driving off, that the woman tried to driver her over with her car.

According to police, the mother and her child left and made it safely to their Peters Township home.

Now, police are conducting a full investigation, looking at possible child endangerment charges against the mother.
