Firefighters Battle The Elements And Flames In Butler Co.

BUTLER COUNTY (KDKA) – Crews from at least six fire departments had to battle the elements and other challenges when they responded to a house fire in Lancaster Township Tuesday night.

The fire started on East Lancaster Road, near Harmony.

Eight tankers responded to the blaze and the house is a total loss. However, firefighters were able to save a large storage building next to the house.

The family was able to get out safely before fire crews arrived.

But that was just the beginning of the challenges for firefighters.

"When we first got here, there was absolutely no water here," said Prospect VFD Chief Jerry Osborne. "We were the third company here and the hydrants … there's no water, and with the roads getting bad – just the more tankers, the more water we have, the better."

Firefighters also had to deal with a fire truck that went off the road and into some trees.
East Lancaster Road was also closed down for about five hours while fire crews responded.

No word on what caused the fire.
