Public Works Truck, Cars Involved In Fatal Crash
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A woman was killed when she slammed into the back of a Pittsburgh Public Works truck in Harrison Township.
State Police say a car was involved in an accident on a slippery overpass on Route 28.
The driver of a public works truck stopped to help her.
"The driver stopped to be a good samaritan, and check on the young girl that crashed," Corporal Christopher Robbins of the Pennsylvania State Police says.
That's when another car crashed into the back of the public works truck, killing the driver of that car.
"This is a notoriously bad section of roadway with freezing, we do have quite a few incidents here," Deputy Chief of the Citizen's Hose Fire Department Matt Barch said.
Authorities say special deicing equipment on overpass detects colder temps, and heats or thaws the road surface.
They're not sure if that system was activated, and if icy roads are too blame.
The public works department says the truck was on its way to Sarver to pick up pothole filling materials when the accident happened.
The driver killed in the accident has been identified as 38-year-old Roxane Taylor of Arnold.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
