Sharpsburg Police Investigating Possible Attempted Luring

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) – Sharpsburg Police are investigating reports of an attempted child luring that happened Monday morning.

Police say it happened on North Canal Street.

Police say that a man in a newer model white van motioned for a 10-year-old girl to come towards the vehicle while she was walking to the bus stop and said, "Come here, I have a present for you."

The victim did not respond to the man, and got on the bus.

She reported the attempted luring when she arrived at Kerr Elementary School.

"For someone to come into this neighborhood and try to abduct a child on the way to school, that's ridiculous," said parent Vanessa Freeman.

Some parents were shocked that something like that would happen in their neighborhood.

"Stuff like the just doesn't happen around here," said Danita Allen.

The man is described as a white man, older, with gray hair and possibly a ponytail.

Last month, a woman in the same neighborhood told police she saw a suspicious man in a white van. Police don't know if there's a connection.

Police are reviewing surveillance video in an attempt to come up with more information.

The investigation is ongoing.
