Winter Storm Causes Headaches Around Area

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The snow and ice caused many problems around the area for many people.

Early this morning, roadways across the region were coated with snow and ice.

Emergency crews were called out to accidents, but most were minor.

One crash happened just after 7 a.m. on Freeport Road in O'Hara Township, Allegheny County.

Police blocked off the street at Powers Run Road.

An SUV and a pickup truck collided and both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Both had to be towed from the scene.

In other areas, drivers didn't have to deal with delays from accidents, but they did have to spend some time clearing off the car.

A lot of drivers woke up to a vehicle covered in a layer of ice.

"I've never seen wet snow like this before, but I mean, literally it's an ice shield on my car right now. So, I'm just trying to make it work and get to where I'm going," Amy Diplacido said.

If you parked in a garage and didn't have to scrape, chances are you weren't as lucky with your sidewalk.

"So far, it's been a pretty rough winter. Every day, we get a little precipitation. You [have to] keep up with it, and spring is right around the corner," Bill Saccomano said.

Just in case you're counting, the official start of spring is just 43 days away.
