McKeesport Mayor Issues Warning To Gentlemen's Club Owner

McKEESPORT (KDKA) -- At the former site of Chick's Grill on Walnut Street in McKeesport, they've been working round the clock to get a so-called gentlemen's club that is set to open by Valentine's Day.

However, it's not warming the hearts of many people in the area.

"Let's face it, it's a bar, a strip club," said Mike Robinson, of McKeesport. "What kind of money could you possibly bring into the community?"

It's not exactly a bar. They don't have a liquor license, but they plan on giving away beer for the price of admission. They'll also have nude dancers.

It's not exactly the kind of neighbor the hair and nail salon next door is looking for.

"I'm afraid at night; my clients aren't going to want to come down after dark," said Mary Sharpe, the owner of the salon.

On Thursday, the mayor of McKeesport issued a stern warning to Saints and Sinners.

He wasn't available to talk on camera, but in a written statement the mayor said:
"I do not believe this type of establishment should be permitted. This will harm our efforts to recruit more businesses to this corridor. The establishment has not gone through the proper procedures to apply for permits. If they attempt to open, I intend to shut them down immediately."

That's just fine with some folks.

"You want something that's going to come in and promote other businesses. I see the other businesses moving out if it stays there," said Robinson.
