1 Injured In Beltzhoover Bar Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after shots were fired inside a Beltzhoover bar Tuesday night.

According to police, the shooting happened before 11 p.m. at Red's Ringside Café at 304 East Warrington Avenue.

Police responded within minutes to Red's Ringside Cafe. Once there, they found a man shot several times after police say a gunman came in looking for him.

"He attempted to shoot one of the patrons in the bar. The gun jammed and the patron and the man began to fight over the gun," Pittsburgh Police Lt. William Mathias said.

Police said it was just a matter of moments before the gun went off.

"The male with the gun was able to rack the slide and eject the round, so his gun was now operable. He then fired three shots striking the male," Mathias said. "Grazing him in the side of the head, the teeth, and the back shoulder."

The victim was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, expected to survive the shooting. Even though police arrived quickly, they got limited information at the scene.

"There were numerous witnesses in the bar, but by the time we arrived, there were only a handful left. The victim was uncooperative, didn't really want to tell us much," Mathias said.

Despite the lack of help from the victim, police were able to get a few details from the witnesses left at the bar.

"The male originally said that the actor who did the shooting walked in and just started shooting, didn't think he was a target. But from the witness information, it was determined that he actually was the target and they fought over the gun," Mathias said.

No arrests have been made at this time.
