Time Running Out To Register For Pittsburgh Marathon

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's the last call for the Dick's Sporting Goods City of Pittsburgh Marathon.

There are only a few hundred slots left for both the full and the half-marathon.

"If you want to get in, get in now because I can't say how much longer we have," said Patrice Matamoros, the marathon director.

Once again this year, the marathon and the half have filled up quickly, even though the frigid, icy winter has made training an act of sheer will.

But Friday's sunny skies and balmy temperatures bought out offices workers to train.

The marathon has grown steadily since coming back seven years ago.

But while this year's field will be the biggest yet, it will only be slightly ahead of last year with 6,300 marathoners, 16,000 half marathoners and 5,500 relay runners.

That's 27,800 race day runners in all.

"Perfect size for our market," Matamoros said.

Matamoros says the marathon should stay this size for the foreseeable future.

"Our goal now is to really perfect what we do operationally because we think quality is beter than quantity," she said.
