Report: Steelers Eyeing Cornerback With First Round Draft Pick

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - As the revolving door that is NFL free agency continues to spin, so does the needs of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  With the free agent signing of Safety Mike Mitchell from the Carolina Panthers, the Steelers cross at least one need off their list for the upcoming NFL Draft.

There has been much speculation about where the Steelers will go with the 15th overall pick in the draft with many speculating that they would be targeting a defensive line candidate, most likely Notre Dame's Louis Nix III.

Up until recently, you could have included ESPN Draft Expert Mel Kiper Jr. among those that thought the Steelers would take Nix, but as Scott Brown of ESPN.com writes, it appears as though Kiper has them targeting another position.

Kiper's latest mock draft has the Steelers selecting Oklahoma St. Cornerback Justin Gilbert, the top rated Cornerback on his board.  Gilbert measures in at 6 feet, 202 pounds with speed to burn as he recently was clocked in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.38 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Gilbert was a 2013 Second Team All-American, First Team All-Big 12 and a Jim Thorpe Finalist while finishing the year tied for third in the FBS with 7 interceptions, returning 2 of them for touchdowns.  NFL.com has a full breakdown of Gilbert which you can see here.
