Report: Pirates Backup Catcher Chris Stewart To Undergo Knee Surgery

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - According to multiple reports, Pirates backup catcher Chris Stewart will be undergoing knee surgery for an injury he sustained against the Minnesota Twins back on March 12.

The bigger picture issue here is that if Stewart is forced to miss a significant period of time, Tony Sanchez will be forced into backup duty, which the team was hoping to avoid. They wanted him to receive regular work at AAA in hopes that he would be ready to take on the job full-time in 2015.

Stewart came to the Pirates from the Yankees in a trade back in December for a player to be named later.  Stewart is a career .214 hitter over seven years in the majors adding eight home runs and 51 RBI's known more for his defense.

Stay tuned to 93-7 The FAN for continuing coverage of Pirates spring training.
