Police Make 4 Arrests In 10-Year-Old's Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- Police in Washington County have arrested four suspects in connection with a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl early Monday morning.

Authorities say they have charged 28-year-old Anthian Goehring, 18-year-old Douglas Cochran, Jr., 20-year-old Malik Thomas and 18-year-old Richard White with homicide in the case.

One of the men is a distant cousin of the victim's father. Police said the four suspects are all from Washington County.

The suspects were heckled and jeered Friday night as police transported them from the police station to court for arraignment.

Many in the crowd came from the funeral home where there was a wake for the young victim, fourth grader Taniyah Thomas.

Police say the motive for the attempted home invasion was robbery.

"We've got to make sure in our community that this never happens to anyone else's child. Everybody lost here, period," said Curtis Thomas, Taniyah's father.

Thomas was shot in the head as she tried to run to her mother's room in their Chestnut Street apartment. Police say multiple shots were fired through the closed door to the apartment.

"We did have a few people give us some information," said Lt. Dan Stanek, Washington Police. "We utilized the good old-fashioned just talking to people. We were able to pull some video surveillance from different locations in the city to either show where people were or weren't."

Curtis Thomas, one of those in the angry crowd at the police station, said he knew the suspects.

"Only God can judge the suspects, but if it was up to me, they would get what my daughter got," Thomas said.
