You Need To Eat This: Ice Cream For A Cause

You guys, there is an ice cream festival this weekend!

Not only will Market Square be filled with 75 flavors of ice cream and musical acts for DreamOn, but it's all to benefit local causes.

If you haven't heard of Dream Cream, it's an ice cream shop downtown (located across from Market Square) with money from each flavor going to a specific cause. How it works: the people working there pick the flavors to sell. Each employee has a certain cause, charity, organization, etc. that they want to raise money for – and if you choose their flavor, they get a certain percent for their cause.

When I went last summer, money from the flavor I chose went to a sweet woman who worked as a teacher and was trying to raise money so she and her husband could adopt their first child.

I've been a bunch of times, but best of all was the cherry pie ice cream that brought a tear to my eye (and not just because I was helping a good cause). It was everything you wanted in an ice cream: two delicious desserts smashed into one. Since then, there is nary a time I go for a scoop of ice cream without dreaming of that cherry pie flavor.

If you want to stuff yourself silly full of ice cream and check out the DreamOn festival this weekend, it runs all day Friday and Saturday and until 4 p.m. Sunday. You can check out the schedule of events here.
