Man Arrested After Police Say He Tried To Have Sex With 15-Year-Old

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police arrested a Vandergrift man after they say he tried to have sex with a teen girl.

Police say 34-year-old Michael Bober, of East Vandergrift, communicated with a 15-year-old girl for several months on social media.

Bober had planned to meet the girl Thursday night in Charleroi.

However, the teen worked with police and officers as they investigated Bober for several months. And last night they finally had enough evidence to arrest and charge him.

"The male initiated contact and wanted to offer up money for some sexual acts," said Charleroi Police Officer Ryan Brand.

Police say Bober contacted the teen at the end of last summer over social media, using a phone Facebook page. Even after the girl's father told him to back off, he continued, but police were aware -- and last night, Bober reached out to her again.

"We were informed last night that the male had made contact with the juvenile female and wanted to meet with her," Brand said.

With cooperation from the girl and her parents, police set up a sting, having the teen arrange to meet with Bober just down the street from the police station parking lot, while police stayed close by. He allegedly had offered her between $200 and $500 for sexual acts.

Police say Bober became wary and tried to take off.

"Myself and Officer Carcello then proceeded to follow the actor in his vehicle," Brand said.

They caught up with him, arrested and charged him. Now police say they are digging deeper into his past and other possible interactions with minors.

Bober was charged with four felonies, as well as DUI. State Police have been notified and they plan to broaden the investigation.
