Butler Co. Grocery Store Destroyed By Fire

EAU CLAIRE (KDKA) -- A nearly 100-year-old business in Butler County went up in flames overnight.

It started around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Delisio's Market on South Washington Street in Eau Claire. It used to be the Thompson's Country Market until about six months ago.

Crews from Butler, Clarion, Venango and Armstrong counties were called in to help.

Eau Claire Assistant Fire Chief Josh Sullivan said they had to pull crews out of the building.

"We got half it knocked down and ended up keeping low on air," he said. "When we went back in the second time the fire got ahead of us, got very hot, very fast. So we had to pull the guys out for safety reason."

There were no injuries reported. The store has had many owners and many renovations over the years.

"There's been multiple additions, multiple walls, double ceilings, triple ceilings, so we had trouble getting in and out, and it was too dangerous for the guys inside," said Assistant Chief Sullivan.

The fire marshal was on the scene Friday morning to investigate. So far, there is no word on a cause of the fire.
