Springsteen One Of Many Big Concerts Coming To Consol

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Several big name artists are coming to Pittsburgh this spring and summer.

Lady Gaga, Fleetwood Mac, Katy Perry, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart and Santana are all slated to come to Consol Energy Center.

Tuesday night, Bruce Springsteen brought 17,000 fans to their feet.

David Sabolsky made the trip in from Youngstown, Ohio.

"I've seen him in Pittsburgh way back on the 'Born in the USA' days down at Three Rivers and at the old Mellon Arena, but it's the first time here at the Consol Center," he said.

Consol's Director of Booking, Scott Zimmerman, has been getting big name performers to the city since 1995. He says with the original Civic Arena, certain performers couldn't play in the 'Burgh.

"Just the limit ability of what the building could do and couldn't do," Zimmerman said. "Paul McCartney was evidence of that."

He says with a venue like Consol, getting the big names to Pittsburgh is an easy sell.

Zimmerman says the city is becoming a "must play" market in the music business.

"We've been lucky enough to be on that map and I think its a testament to the building itself to be able to make sure that those shows don't pass Pittsburgh by," Zimmerman said.
