Bride's Lawyer Says Shooting Was Accident

NEW BRIGHTON (KDKA/AP) -- There are new developments in a fatal shooting in New Brighton.

The lawyer for Christina George-Harvan says the shooting was an accident.

The attorney told the Beaver County Times on Saturday that George-Harvan is "obviously completely distraught."

The 30-year-old Conway newlywed is accused in the shooting death of her 21-year-old niece, Katelyn Francis of Fairview, W. Va.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday at Jimmy K's Bar on 11th Avenue.

Police say Francis was shot in the parking lot and died on her way to the hospital.

According to investigators, Francis was at the bar with George-Harvan, her aunt and her aunt's new husband just hours after their wedding.

Police say they were arguing about who would be the designated driver when the bride is accused of taking a gun from her husband's truck and firing at Francis.

Lawyer J. Lauson Cashdollar says George-Harvan simply tried to move the gun when it went off.

George-Harvan faces one count of homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.

She is being held without bail.
