New Castle H.S. Basketball Team Receives National Recognition

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) - A high school basketball team from our area is receiving a big honor.

The Army National Guard teamed up with the Max Preps Tour of Champions to honor teams around the country that had outstanding seasons.

Each year, MaxPreps ranks more than 20,000 varsity basketball teams. This year, New Castle High School's team ranked 35th on that list.

Thursday morning, they became one of just ten schools across the country to receive awards.

"They just had a great year. We were undefeated this year. We were 31-0, won the state championship. Just a great bunch of guys, and this is really a great honor to cap-off the season," said head coach Ralph Blundo, who works as the school's assistant principal.

The school worked the presentation into their senior awards ceremony Thursday morning.

They received a trophy, a banner to display at the school and a round of applause from their fellow students for their accomplishments.
