Former O'Hara Councilman Jailed On Child Pornography Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A former local official who just lost his bid for re-election last fall is now facing some serious charges.

Former O'Hara Township councilman Alan Templin, 55, is facing multiple child pornography charges.

He was arrested by agents from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Child Predator unit.

Templin lives alone in a home on Conrad Drive.

According to the criminal complaint, it was at his home where agents located several files containing suspected child pornography that was being made available for download through a "peer-to-peer network." The computer's IP address was found at Templin's home.

When agents went to his home, they seized several handguns and rifles, a kitchen knife and a desktop computer.

During the search, officials detected a strong smell of natural gas and discovered that a kitchen knife had been wedged between the front edge of the stove and the thermocouple, allowing the flow of gas.

O'Hara Township Police and firefighters responded, stopping the flow of gas.

Templin told investigators he uses the knife to keep the pilot light lit while operating the oven and he had forgotten to turn it off.

Gas had been flowing through the house for about 18 hours.

When questioned about child porn on his computer, authorities say Templin admitted he had a file-sharing program installed on his computer that he used to download pictures and movies.

When asked if some of those pictures and movies were pornography, police say Templin said yes.

Templin faces a slew of charges, including 10 counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of distributing child porn.

He is at the Allegheny County Jail on $200,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing later this month.
