Newsradio 1020 KDKA Editorial: New Public Safety Director
It took more than five months –
But Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto has announced his new Public Safety Director.
FBI Special Agent Stephen Bucar [BOO-kar] starts early next month.
His resume is impressive –
He's a Washington County native who worked in local law enforcement –
And the state police –
Before joining the FBI in 1991.
Hopefully – he has some thoughts about picking a new police chief.
Pittsburgh's had an acting chief for over a year –
A situation similar to rowing with one oar in the water.
There's a lot of activity – but not a lot of progress.
Pittsburgh needs a chief without the word "acting" in the title.
The public deserves it –
And so do the officers.
It's just not healthy for an organization to be leaderless for so long.
Now that he has his Public Safety Director –
Bill Peduto needs to work with him to pick a chief now –
Not several months from now –
So the police bureau can finally get both oars in the water to best serve the city of Pittsburgh
