1 Dead After Car Crashes Into Butler Co. Hair Salon

CABOT, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - A woman waiting for an appointment at a Butler County hair salon was killed Friday when a vehicle came barreling into the building and she became pinned underneath the wreckage.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. at the hairstyling and tanning business called Scissor Heaven on North Pike Road in the small community of Cabot in Jefferson Township.

KDKA's Ralph Iannotti Reports:

The victim, who state police now identify as 67-year-old Janet Huth of Cabot, was sitting in the waiting area of the salon when the dark-colored 2008 Subaru Forester crashed through the wall.

Huth became pinned underneath the SUV and died from her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, identified by state police as 74-year-old Carol Peters of Butler, was arriving at the salon for an appointment.

It's not known if Peters suffered a medical emergency, or her vehicle had a mechanical malfunction.

"We're here to give consolation to the ones that we love, especially when a tragedy like this happens," said Fr. Mark Pattock, of St. Joseph's Church in Cabot, at the scene of the crash. "You want to be there for the people that you care about."

KDKA's Paul Martino Reports:

Both woman are members of his church. He came to the scene to offer comfort to the families of the driver and the victim.

"I had really not known who it was," added Fr. Pattock. "We were actually passing by in a funeral procession and we saw the accident. Then, we found out later who it was."

Bob and Irene Traggiai, neighbors of Huth, said that she was a very special person and a religious woman.

"She was a good person, very good, and she came from a big family, about a dozen brothers and sisters," Irene said.

Bob said she would always be at Mass on a Saturday evening at St. Joseph Church in Cabot.

Traggiai said he was a barber, and he found it unbelievable that she was killed in a bizarre crash at the hair salon where she had gone.

KDKA's Paul Martino Reports:

A man who was also in the salon waiting area suffered some minor injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

State police in Butler continue to investigate the crash.
