2 New Parking Lots Under Construction At North Park Boathouse

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It started as a parking ticket on a windshield, a nearly $400 parking ticket, at the North Park Boathouse.

Wounded warrior National Guard Major Mike Clark, who was participating in a race at the park over Memorial Day Weekend, got one of them.

"I actually couldn't believe it when I went up and saw I had a ticket on my car," said Clark.

His ticket, written by an Allegheny County Police officer who wrote several just like it and has now been transferred, set off a firestorm. Now though, changes are being made.

By early next week, there will be two new parking lots at the boathouse. There will also be new signage, as well as crosswalks. All of it is under construction right now.

All of it has the full support of Allegheny County Council.

Nick Futules saw our reports and took action. He's chair of the Allegheny County Parks committee.

He applauds the new parking lots and promises the $370 parking on the grass tickets will be more like $50.

Futules: "Our message is we've got ample parking for you, and welcome, we're going to do everything we can to make sure you have a good stay at the county park."

KDKA's Marty Griffin: "Will there ever be another $370 ticket again, sir?"

Futules: "Not while I'm a county councilman."
