Tim Neverett On Pirates Recent Success

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pirates broadcaster Tim Neverett joined Colin Dunlap on Bucco Talk Saturday morning. Neverett said that while the Pirates should have swept the Padres, the bigger goal is to just keep winning series.

"Sweeps are nice, but the main thing is over the course of a 162 game season is winning series. Two out of three, two out of three, three out of four. If you can continue to do that, that's what happened last year with the Pirates," Neverett said.

Neverett told Dunlap that it's hard to believe that pitcher Gerrit Cole has only been in the majors for a year.

"When he's in the lineup, and I'm writing the lineup in my scorebook, I'm going, 'We've got a great chance to win tonight because he's on the hill,'" Neverett said. "I think that every night, I know my partners do, I know he does, and I know his teammates do. And the truth of the matter is, when he's on the hill, they have a great chance to win every night he takes the mound."

Starling Marte has struggled recently at the plate and in the field, but Neverett has confidence that Marte will regain his form.

"He's not the complete package that he was, but the Pirates think he will be, I think he will be because we've seen it. We've seen what he can do," Neverett said.
