Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette: Pouncey Deal Was One They Had To Make

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ed Bouchette joined the Cook and Poni Show to discuss the new deal for Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey.

Bouchette tells the guys that the old deal was torn up and this is now a six-year deal worth $48 million.

"He is a great center," Bouchette said. "He is the first center in NFL history to go to three straight pro bowls."

Pouncey tore his ACL in the first game last season and missed all of 2013, but the Steelers are confident that the injury does not worry them moving forward.

"You can't run scared," Bouchette said. "They are convinced he will be OK. If he goes out and tears it again next week than I am wrong and so are they."

Bouchette said the doctors and coaches saw his work and rehab in the off-season and are convinced he has done the work to get back.

Bouchette says he doesn't agree with those who call Pouncey injury prone and it was certainly not his fault he tore his ACL. He says this is a no-brainer for the Steelers.

"They love him in that locker room," Bouchette added. "He is a leader. He is the kind of guy you want to build around."
