Presidential Hopeful: Vote For Candidate Who Does What They Say

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Dr. Ben Carson is a Washington Times columnist and FOX News contributor who has also authored five books.

His most recent book is called "One Nation: What We Can Do to Save America's Future."

Carson was a member of the President's Council on bioethics. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the country. He and his wife founded the Carson Scholars Fund, dedicated to recognizing young peoples' academic achievements.

Now Carson could be adding presidential candidate to his list of accomplishments. The National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee is a political action committee formed to put Carson in the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

Dr. Ben Carson, Part 1

Carson says that voters need to start looking at what the candidates actually do, instead of what they say they're going to do. While politicians need to stop doing what's politically expedient over what is right. He says they need to focus on the problems.

The big factor that the people are forgetting, is that this nation belongs to all of us, he says. He discusses that throughout history, people have come to America, a place where you have freedom of speech and expression, to escape controlling governments.

"We are not each others enemies. And yet there are those elements who are driving wedges into every possible crack to create a war on women, age wars, race wars, income wars, religious wars, you name it, there's a war on it," said Carson. "All of this is designed to divide people and distract people while the very fabric of our nation is being changed beneath our feet. And we have to wake up, it is up to us, we the people, to see who our representatives are."

He feels that the next two elections will determine what kind of nation we will become. But what does that mean for his possible presidential run?

"Obviously it's not something I have the desire to do, I'm not sure any sane person would want to do, you notice how people age when they get into that office," said Carson. "I do recognize that we are in a great deal of trouble and I do get a lot of people every place I go. I go to the airport people come up to me, 'You gotta run.' I'm in an elevator in a hotel, 'You gotta run,' and people don't usually talk in elevators. The way I look at it, I'm going to see what happens in November. If the people indicate through their ballots that they want to continue down this road of big government, who am I to say otherwise. But if they indicate that they're ready to really have a nation that is for of and by the people and that they really want to abide by the rule of law, the constitution, stop picking and choosing what laws to enforce, which groups to favor, bring some honesty back, then certainly I might consider re-engaging at a higher level."
