Victim Upgraded To Stable Condition, Suspect In Custody In Brookline Stabbing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police have one person in custody and are questioning another after a stabbing in Brookline Friday evening sent a man to the hospital.

The stabbing happened around 6 p.m. in the 700-block of Brookline Boulevard. Many people were out on the street when the incident took place.

"I saw a lot of blood, and him lying on the ground and people trying to put pressure on his wounds," said Kerri Evans, a witness.

People who live in the area say a lot of trouble has been brewing in Brookline, and they're fed up.

"I know the guy. It's hard, really hard," said Kim, another witness. "There's fights almost every day; get rid of these nuisance bars."

The fight started in front of a salon and ended up in front of a saloon.

One of the guy's mothers may have been slammed to the ground before the stabbing happened.

Regardless, local residents say it's out of control.

"These kids, they have no respect for anybody anymore," said Evans. "Everybody just wants to fight. Nobody can just fight like the old days, just fist to fist. You've got to pull out weapons and this and that."

They're hoping for justice.

"It was hard. It was really hard. I just hope he's okay," added Kim. "And to the guy that did it, I hope he rots in jail."

Pittsburgh Police tell KDKA that the victim is 23-years-old and has a stab wound near his right kidney.

One man's in custody. He has been identified by officials as Joseph Campagna, of Brookline.

Another was being questioned.

On Saturday, authorities said the victim has been upgraded from serious to stable condition.
