Police Make 2 Arrests During Dispute, Standoff In Knoxville

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two men are in custody after a domestic dispute and standoff sent police and the SWAT team to Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood overnight.

It all started just after 10 p.m. in the 400-block of Daytona Street.

According to city public safety officials, police surrounded a home there when they arrived to find a man and woman arguing inside. The SWAT team was called in.

Authorities say an 18-year-old woman was the first person to come out of the home after police issued several commands.

Public safety officials say she told officers that she and an ex-boyfriend, identified as 25-year-old Maurice McArdle of Coraopolis, got into an argument on the front porch of the home and he fired a shot at her.

After giving several more commands to try and get McArdle out, authorities say the SWAT team fired several rounds of tear gas into the home.

That's when another man, identified as Michael Hicks, came out of the home. Officials say he is a relative of the victim.

He was wanted on an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody.

It was until just before 1:30 a.m. that McArdle was finally arrested.

Authorities say when he finally came out of the home, he tried to run, but police caught up to him and took him into custody.

McArdle is now being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

He is facing charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and other firearms violations.
