Mom Facing DUI Charge With Child In Car Waives Prelim Hearing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A woman facing DUI charges after she was pulled over with her 2-year-old daughter in the car waived a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

In May, Stacy Jo Watters, 40, was behind the wheel of a white Toyota SUV, but according to Moon Township Police Chief Leo McCarthy, she was doing a lot more than driving on University Boulevard before pulling off onto Shafer Road.

"Wednesday, about 7:41, we got a 911 call from a young woman, frantic, said that a woman was chasing behind her, some type of road rage incident, and had banged into her vehicle several times with her vehicle," said Chief McCarthy.

The victim described the suspect, her vehicle and what she was wearing. Word went out on police radios, and Chief McCarthy says when they found her, she had a little girl with her.

Watters was given several sobriety tests, which she failed.

As she entered the magistrate's office on Tuesday, Watters said she regretted the incident.

Initially, she told police she had not been drinking, but police say then admitted consuming two bottles of whiskey that day at home. Police also found an empty bottle of Black Velvet in her back pocket.

Meanwhile, her attorney said she took the prescription drugs because she had back surgery and was released from the hospital only one day prior to the incident.

When police checked her record, they found Watters has a pending DUI in February in North Fayette Township. She reportedly had a child in the car with her during that incident, too.
