Tree Topples Onto Historic Washington Co. Home

WASHINGTON COUNTY (KDKA) – A large tree fell on a historic house late Monday.

It happened on Wilmont Avenue in East Washington.

No one was injured when it fell, but the building was damaged.

A landscaping company was scheduled to remove the tree Tuesday morning.

Apparently the tree had other plans.

"The tree was actually planted between the sidewalk and the street and what happens is it doesn't give the roots anywhere to go under the street, so they move out sideways, but that doesn't give them anything to stabilize them from coming the other way," said Robert Smith with Smith Services.

The homeowner said the tree came down with a "bang."

The tree will be cut into pieces and hauled away.
