Girl, 1, Suffers Broken Leg On Trampoline With Father

GERMAN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a 1-year-old child suffered a broken leg while on a trampoline with her father.

According to police, the incident happened on July 11 at a home on Sunshine Hollow Road in German Township.

The girl's father told police he would drop down on his buttocks to bounce on the trampoline while holding the child.

The girl is believed to have suffered the injury during that activity.

Family members say only later did they realize the girl had been hurt.

Later, the girl's grandmother brought her to Uniontown Hospital where X-rays revealed the broken leg injury.

The girl was given a cast that covers almost the entire length of her leg.

"The break is here," said her grandmother who didn't want to be identified. "But they put it up here so she didn't put a lot of pressure on her knee."

Names have not been released and no charges have been filed.

The American Academy of Pediatrics sees trampoline jumping as high-risk for children and discourages home trampolines altogether.

They say 50 percent of injuries in children under the age of 5 are fractures, dislocations, spinal and head injuries.
