What To Expect At This Weekend's Big Events
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – This weekend marks another big country music event on the North Side – and some changes to what you can and can't do leading up to the event.
Country music stars Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert will be at PNC Park Saturday night, bringing an expected 30,000 plus fans.
Sunday at Heinz Field is also the 2014 Guinness International Championships Cup Match between A.C. Milan and Manchester City.
And if you're planning on tailgating beforehand, there'll be a few changes to what's allowed and what isn't.
Parking lots won't open until 2 p.m. Saturday and tailgating is banned once the first act takes the stage.
By the time Jason Aldean starts playing, cleanup in the parking lots will be well underway.
The plans crafted since the post-Luke Bryan mess in the lots on the west side of Heinz Field are set and ready to go.
ALCO runs the lots on the east side of Heinz Field and saw its Luke Bryan plan work pretty well. But they have been involved in the tweaking with the mayor's office.
"We certainly expect to do better, whether we get it perfect, I think that's an ongoing effort," said Merrill Stabile, the president of ALCO Parking.
The Peduto administration's desire to clamp down on tailgating hours has been accomplished.
"Our lots will open at 2 p.m., five hours in front of the concert," said Ralph Reetz, the general manager of ALCO Parking. "The Pittsburgh Police are not going to allow any queuing even before then. People should not think about coming at 1 or 1:30 and waiting outside the parking lot."
Once the music starts inside PNC Park, officials say "officers will be going through the lots and clearing the lots, asking everyone to go on into the concert or clear the lots."
That'll happen between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. That will allow crews to start cleaning while the concert is going on and after the show.
The Peduto administration has made it clear the parking lots must be cleaned up by early Sunday morning or citations will be issued. The urgency is because of the crowd coming to the soccer game at Heinz Field Sunday. Lots open then at 11 a.m.
Officials have also increased the number of port-o-potties from about 120 to 200.
As for anyone attending the soccer match Sunday, the NFL's clear bag policy will be in effect.
However, there will be soccer-themed activities starting at 11 a.m. on Art Rooney Avenue. Gates open at 2 p.m. and the match starts at 4 p.m.
Another 30,000 are expected for that event, too.
