Gabe Kapler: Pirates Should Be Buyers At Deadline
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Gabe Kapler of Fox Sports joined Chris Mack to discuss this week's MLB non-waiver trade deadline.
Kapler said that with a projected 35 percent chance of making the postseason, the Pirates should look to be a buyer.
"For me, this is enough that you want to make a move. I'm not sure exactly what that move is. If you go for a guy like (San Diego's) Ian Kennedy, I think that improves you big time," Kapler said.
Tampa Bay pitcher David Price is one of the top trade targets. But, Kapler said the price would be steep.
"I think you have a hard time if you're Andrew Friedman of the Tampa Bay Rays saying, 'I'm willing to part with David Price unless I got (Gregory) Polanco back in return.' And I know that that sounds absurd to Pirates fans," Kapler said. "For two pennant races, you are getting a top-of-the-league ace-type starter."
