PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Pirates announced the signing of infielder Jayson Nix Sunday morning.

According to a statement from the team, Nix will be available for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Nix has split time between Tampa Bay and Philadelphia this season. On Friday, he was released by the Rays after hitting .274 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 54 games with Triple-A Durham.

To make room for Nix, the Pirates have optioned Brent Morel to Triple-A Indianapolis.

They also designated Dean Anna for assignment.
