Police: Man Duct-Tapes Woman's Arms To Body To Prevent Her From Leaving Following Argument

BUTLER COUNTY (KDKA) - A Butler County man is facing charges after police say he duct-taped a woman's arms to her body.

Gary Tichansky, 29, of Butler Township, is jailed on $50,000 bail after police say he beat up his live-in girlfriend and may have duct-taped her to prevent her from escaping from their apartment.

Butler Township Police Chief John Hays told KDKA-TV News that the woman was found in the bedroom of the East Jefferson Street apartment with head and hand injuries.

"We kept him outside," said Chief Hays. "We went inside, found her in the bedroom. She had a knot on her forehead, marks around her neck, scrapes and bruises on her face. She told us she was duct-taped.

She was treated and released at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Chief Hays says his police officers arrested Tichansky last November in a similar assault incident and charges of making terroristic threats.

But less than two weeks later, Tichansky was allowed to plead guilty to reduced charges. Online court records show the case was closed.

Chief Hays says no duct tape was found when police searched the couple's apartment.

A man, who did not want to be identified, told KDKA he and his mother heard the woman screaming and then silence. He thought she might have been killed.

"She just heard a lot is screaming and yelling, and after that, it just went quiet," he said. "They say that's when he had her pinned down and duct taping her and everything else. We were afraid that he killed her."

Tichansky is now facing charges of aggravated assault and unlawful restraint.
