Report: Pouncey Could Be Charged In Nightclub Brawl

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- There are new developments involving the assault allegations Pittsburgh Steelers' center Maurkice Pouncey and his twin are facing.

According to a report in the Miami Herald, Pouncey could be charged with misdemeanor battery in connection with the alleged July 12 brawl during his birthday party at Miami's Cameo nightclub.

His brother, Mike Pouncey of the Miami Dolphins, reportedly won't face charges, the Miami Herald reports.

While there's been no confirmation from police that charges are forthcoming, the Miami Herald is reporting the lawyer, who is representing the three alleged victims in the case, says the charges could be filed as soon as Friday.

The Pouncey brothers maintain they were not involved in any altercation.

A lawsuit was filed late last month in Miami-Dade Circuit Court on behalf of Ricquan James, Niya Pickett and Brentley Williams.

They are seeking more than $15,000 in damages in the alleged incident.

According to the lawsuit, the Pounceys harassed James with homophobic remarks and physically attacked him.

"The shoving got harder and I realized it was directed at me, so I asked the brothers, don't touch me," said James.

"There were derogatory slurs made based on Riquan's sexual preferences," said Marwan Porter, James' attorney. "They were peppered at him by the Pouncey's and their group, which led to the altercation."

Eventually, James says he was beaten up by the Pouncey brothers and thrown out of the club by the bouncers. The lawsuit also says Pickett was beaten when she tried to intervene and Williams was injured when the Pounceys threw James and Pickett out of the club.

According to CBS Sports, the Pounceys' attorney threatened to file a counter lawsuit last month.

The brothers' attorney says no formal charges can be filed until the state attorney's office reviews the evidence, the Miami Herald reports.

Attorneys also say the claims against the brothers are inconsistent and several witnesses are prepared to testify that the Pouncey brothers had nothing to do with the alleged incident.

According to the Miami Herald's report, the Pouncey brothers' lawyer says the people accusing the twins of assault are just doing it to get some money, and have their 15 seconds in the spotlight.
