Police: Man High On Paint Thinners Attacks Boys Playing Baseball

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) -- A 57-year-old man was arrested after he became irate with a group of boys playing outside and decided to make matters into his own hands.

Police say Ricky Lee Hura of Sharpsburg was angered by the boys who were playing baseball in a vacant lot near his Middle Street apartment.

Sharpsburg Police Chief Leo Rutzki says Hura told arresting officers that he had been sniffing a gallon of paint thinner all day when the confrontation with the boys took place Friday afternoon.

He pushed a 7-year-old boy against a telephone poll after he became infuriated by the noise the boys were making.

Before police arrived on the scene, a passing mailman and the 7-year-old's grandfather got him away from Hura.

"Hura is 57 years old, I mean, he's a grownup, (huffing) is something you expect from a teenager," Chief Rutzki said.

Friday night Hura was jailed on charges of harassment, reckless endangerment, simple assault and public drunkeness.
