Man Arrested In Connection With Wash. Co. Attempted Child Luring

WASHINGTON (KDKA) - A 55-year-old man is in jail for allegedly trying to lure and kidnap three young children in Washington County.

According to police, the incident happened around 8 p.m. Sunday on Wilmington Street in Canton Township.

The suspect, Jerry Zgorliski, allegedly approached three children -- ages 4, 8, and 10 -- and told them he'd give them candy if they helped him find his lost dog.

"He said I've lost my dog can you help me find it?" one of the alleged victims said. "He said if I give you candy, lollipops, and I said no," the little girl told KDKA's Mary Robb Jackson.

Officers said he then ran after the children and tried to grab them.

The children ran into their home, and that's when their father went looking for Zgorliski.

Police say the family recently moved into the area, and were familiar with Zgorliski.

"He kept driving down the street asking me if I had any scrap metal," Jonathan Gillespie said.

It didn't take officers long to find Zgorliski who lived nearby.

Officers brought Zgorliski back to the house to make a positive identification.

The children's mother says the trooper told Zgorliski, "you see this 10 year old girl, she's petrified because of you."

Police say Zgorliski was arrested 20-years ago on multiple counts of multiple deviant sexual intercourse on a 30-year-old woman.

Zgorliski is facing several charges, including attempted kidnapping and unlawful restraint.
