North Versailles Shooting Suspect In Custody

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police have arrested a young man in connection with a shooting that left a 17-year-old boy critically injured Sunday afternoon.

Police brought the suspect into Allegheny County Police headquarters for questioning around 10 p.m.

He told KDKA-TV that he has no idea what happened about three hours earlier in North Versailles.

On weekend afternoons, residents in the Cliffview Apartments Complex enjoy sitting on their balconies and gathering in the playground area.

Three girls were chatting on a bench Sunday, when someone opened fire.

"I heard three shots, bang, bang, bang," one woman said.

The bullets narrowly missed the girls, but ended up hitting a 17-year-old, who was on his way to an AA meeting.

The girls ran screaming and so did the victim.

The gunman, witnesses say, casually walked into the woods and disappeared. Police arrived within minutes to find the wounded teen flagging them down .

"He bent down and picked up something and was waving his hands. He was running so fast, this kid," a witness said.

Investigators got a tip that the suspect was spotted nearby and it didn't take long before police had him in custody.

No other details have been released at this time.
