Bar Fight Leads To Stabbing In Carrick

PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- Pittsburgh police are investigating a stabbing at a bar that led to several people getting hurt.

Police say it started as a bar fight at Diamond Jim's Bar in the 2000 block of Brownsville Road in Carrick.

That's where police say 37-year-old Matthew Mamula started arguing with people, and 49-year-old Donald Schaffer tried to kick him out of the bar.

Police say the two started fighting, and Schaffer pulled a knife, stabbing Mamula three times in the stomach.

The fight was reportedly broken up and Schaffer left to walk home.

Two other people at the bar suffered minor cuts from the knife.

Sonya Toler, Pittsburgh Police Spokeswoman said, "After the initial fight was broken up the person with the knife left he actually lived not too far from the bar and the folks inside tried to keep the guy inside who started everything but he ran out the door after."

Police say Mamula left the bar and chased after Schaffer, where Mamula was stabbed several more times.

Mamula was taken to UPMC Mercy, and is expected to survive.

Police say he will be charged with assault.

Schaffer will be charged with aggravated assault, and simple assault.

Shalaman Johnson who lives nearby said, "it is unfortunate but you have to also take into account the area that we are located. Sometimes things like that are out of your control."

Police are also investigating a third stabbing which happened on the North Side around 3:00 a.m.

They say a man was stabbed by a woman, he was ran for help along Pennsylvania Avenue in the Manchester neighborhood.

His wound was considered minor. It appeared the stabbing was sparked by a domestic dispute.
