1 Home Destroyed, 2 Others Damaged In Beaver Co. Fire

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – One home was destroyed and two others were damaged by fire Monday night in Beaver County.

According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at the Ankrom's Acres Trailer Park, near the intersection of Backbone and Eaton Roads in Independence Township.

The initial call came in around 10:30 p.m.

While there are no reported injuries, neighbors said it was a close call.

"At least me and my kids are out," Johnette Deller said.

The siding on Deller's trailer melted after the trailer next door caught fire. Another trailer nearby suffered heat damage as well.

"The next thing I know, the flames came through the roof and caught the tree on fire," neighbor Tom Hollowniczky said. "In a matter of five to ten minutes, the whole thing was gone. It was engulfed in flames."

Hollowniczky ran to his neighbor's house to help.

"My neighbor, Dave, I thought was in danger. So, I went down and got him out," he said. "I got Warren out. I got everybody out."

They even used a garden hose to try and put some of the flames out.

The Independence Township fire chief said it is unclear how the trailer caught fire because it was abandoned.

"Nobody lived there for two years. They don't have electric to it. Nothing is on," Deller said.

Neighbors think the fire is suspicious. But, they say things could have been a lot worse.

"Thank goodness it was an abandoned trailer. People moved out and no one got hurt," Hollowniczky said.
