Mother Angry Butler Co. Daycare Didn't Disclose Molestation Accusations

BUTLER COUNTY (KDKA) – There are new developments in the case of a man charged with molesting children at a Butler County daycare.

Parents are speaking out about their concerns, while State Police are looking for specific information about a video.

One mother we spoke to didn't want to reveal her identity, but she had a lot of questions about the charges against Roger Young – the husband of the operator of Patti Cake Childcare near Chicora.

He's accused of molesting young girls at the center. The state's Department of Welfare now prohibits him from contact with children and says they're doing unannounced checks to enforce it.

"I was never informed when I enrolled my kids last year that these allegations took place," said the mother. "I'm wondering why I wasn't informed. I'm wondering why, if his wife knew about that, why did she let him alone with the kids, which I know for a fact that she did down at the day care center."

The investigation began with allegations made in 2011. But charges weren't filed until earlier this month.

So this mother had a talk with her kids.

"I did, I talk to both my children yesterday," she said. "And my daughter said he didn't hurt her, but he would have the kids sit in his lap. At that point I asked, did you want to sit on his lap, or did he ask you to sit on his lap? And she said he asked and from there I said, did he ever touch you? No mommy, I promise."

The charges are based on video surveillance from inside the center, but that investigation isn't finished. There are other children who have not been identified on the video.

"Right now what we're investigating is several different crimes that have been observed on video," said State Police Tpr. Dan Kesten. "However, the children have not been identified in that video. The video that we have was from the fall of 2010, so we're requesting that any parent that may have had a child that was attending the Patti Cake facility in the fall of 2010 to please contact the state police in Butler."

At this point, Young's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.
