Steelers Tackle Kelvin Beachum Talks Opener & Lupus Loop

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum joined the Cook and Poni Show on Tuesday to preview the Steelers' opener Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, as well as his upcoming charity event.

Beachum will serve as the honorary chair for the Lupus Loop 5K Walk/Run/Skate/Dog Jog to be held this Saturday, Sept. 6 at Station Square.

Beachum tells the guys that he was first introduced to the Lupus Loop 5K by former Steeler Willie Colon, and when Colon left, he accepted the role of chair in honor of his mother, Culetta, a lupus patient.

Then, Beachum will set his sights for Sunday as the Steelers host the Browns at Heinz Field for the opener.

He says it will be important for this team to get off to a fast start to avoid what happened to them last season starting (0-4) and missing the playoffs.

"You know our big thing right now is to be (1-0) in the AFC," Beachum said. "This is a division game at home. It's at Heinz Field in front of our fans and we need to get the job done."

Beachum says that fans will be excited to see what new flashy running back Dri Archer can do.

He does admit that the Steelers kept a lot of the offense under wraps during the preseason.

"As far as us showing everything we have to offer, man, we haven't done that," Beachum said. "I know we are not going to hold any bullets back when we play Cleveland in our first game."

All participants in the Lupus Loop 5K Walk/Run/Skate/Dog Jog will receive a long sleeve t-shirt & lunch by Texas de Brazil.

Registration is 8:30 a.m., Runners & Skaters at 9 a.m., Walkers & Dogs at 9:45 a.m. Registration is $25. For more details and to register visit LUPUSPA.org.
