Ottawa Police: Report Of Crosby's Arrest False

OTTAWA (KDKA)- The Ottawa Sun newspaper set off a firestorm this morning on social media, announcing that Sidney Crosby was arrested in Ottawa.

The paper said Crosby was arrested late Tuesday night while driving a rented Porsche in Ottawa. It went on to say the Penguins' star was taken to police headquarters for fingerprinting and a mugshot.

As the story evolved this morning, news outlets talked to the Chief of the Ottawa Police Department, Charles Bordeleau. He told CTV in Ottawa the reports Crosby was arrested in Ottawa last night are "not true."

He went on to say, "Sidney Crosby was not arrested, he never came in and he is not in a cell."

Chief Bordeleau went on to Tweet: "We have had no dealings with Mr. Crosby."

Police also told 1310 News in Ottawa that reports of Sidney Crosby arrested are an "outright lie."

The story has since been taken down from the Ottawa Sun's website.

TSN's Darren Dreger later confirmed that Crosby is training in Vail, Colorado.

The Penguins issued a statement Wednesday morning to also say that Crosby was not in Canada on Tuesday:

"The Pittsburgh Penguins have spoken to Sidney Crosby. He is not in Canada, and was not in Canada yesterday. He is continuing his training in preparation for training camp."
