Steelers Players On Harrison's Retirement: "He Epitomized Steeler Defense"

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Former linebacker James Harrison retired as a Pittsburgh Steelers Friday, and that has his former teammates looking back on his career.

"Nobody epitomized what it was to be a Steeler as of recently. He comes from the old Steel Curtain cast and mold," Steelers safety Troy Polamalu said of Harrison, his former teammate.

Players have different memories of Harrison.

For Polamalu it was the Super Bowl 43 interception, "It's what won us the Super Bowl. I know people want to point at Santonio's catch in the end zone. It was a 14-point swing and that play won us the Super Bowl."

"Very instinctual play by James on that, and is a big reason I have a ring on my finger," Brett Keisel said of that Super Bowl play.

Keisel also remembered a play when a fan ran onto the field against the Cleveland Browns.

"When he body-slammed the dude in Cleveland. I was sitting right next to him on the bench, we were both playing special teams. Dude was running out there and all of a sudden, he [Harrison] just took off. I was like, 'Dude, you can't tell me to come with you.' He doesn't need me though."

Lawrence Timmons said he was the most aggressive players he ever played with, but remembers his little known sense of humor.

"Very, very funny. I remember the Goodell deal when he got in trouble with the guns. I thought it was classic, it showed his personality. Never hurt anyone, great father to his kids. Just a great character for kids to look up to," said Timmons.

"Love the guy, played with him for a long time," Keisel said. "We kicked a lot of tail together."
