Family, Friends Calling For Justice Nearly 1 Year After Banquet Hall Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Family and friends are remembering a murder victim who was gunned down nearly one year ago.

They are pleading for information in the shooting that killed Demetrius Broadnax and Jasmine Morris.

They were killed last October by a gunman who opened fire inside the Diverse Banquet Hall in Homewood. Five other people were hurt.

Last year at this time, Broadnax was riding right alongside his fellow members of the Ruff Ryder Motorcycle Club, but on Friday, they returned to the place where his life was taken away.

What happened to Broadnax and Morris inside the Kelly Street banquet hall is still a source of pain and heartache.

"When my son died, it killed me. But I'm going to use that pain to get that animal off the street," said Diana Broadnax, the victim's mother.

"If you're not bringing this killer to justice, you're part of the problem, not the solution," added Larita Taylor, the victim's godmother.

But the Ruff Ryders try to be part of that solution.

They are cycling enthusiasts and community activists who have vowed to take care of the little boy Broadnax left behind.

"We were taking him to his baseball practices, his games. We attended his games," said Brian Mungin, of the Ruff Ryder Motorcycle Club. "We want to make sure just because her son passed away, she still has family."

"We got to come together as a community and quit hiding out these cowards," Valerie Dixon, of The PACT Initiative, added. "We need to flush them out because once they smell blood, they'll do it again."

The group has pledged to make a difference and they're on the move trying to convince others to do the same.
