Tractor-Trailer Rolls Onto Pickup Truck, 2 Injured

JACKSON TOWNSHIP – (KDKA) – Two people were injured when a tractor-trailer rolled onto another vehicle in Jackson Township Monday morning.

The accident happened on Short Creek Road near Seneca School Road just after 8 a.m.

When the tractor-trailer flipped, it pinned a pickup truck against the guardrail and trapped the driver inside. It took firefighters almost two hours to extricate the man from the pickup truck.

"His legs were trapped underneath the dash. It was limited space because of the guardrails and steep embankment over the hill. We had to lift the loaded tractor-trailer off the vehicle so we could pull it back and then get the front of the vehicle off of his legs and get them unpinned," Assistant Fire Chief with Harmony Volunteer Fire Company Dale Hall said.

The man was air-lifted to a local hospital.

Firefighters were able to easily extricate the driver of the tractor-trailer.

Officials say they are not sure how the tractor-trailer lost control.

"A loaded garbage truck was coming around the bend. We're unsure at this time, but it rolled onto the pickup truck," Hall said.

Officials say a minimal amount of waste went over the hillside. The hardest part of the cleanup is getting tow trucks to pull the tractor-trailer back upright.

Officials are asking drivers in the area to be patient, especially if crews are still working to clean up the mess went Seneca Valley High School is let out of school in the afternoon.
